At the December 2008 Board Meeting, VCSI awarded Dave Williams and UAH a four-year, fully funded scholarship for a student pursuing a degree in engineering or science. The new Von Braun Center for Science & Innovation Scholarship will be awarded to a student who will commence his or her studies in the Fall of 2008.

VCSI hopes to award other scholarships in the not to distant future to other Alabama universities.

VCSI also provided a work-study initiative for two students at UAH. This was enabled by a generous gift from a family in Cleveland, Ohio. Two young ladies, starting their senior year in the Fall of 2008, have been selected. These students will work with a NASA scientist and his research assistant on samples returned from Antarctica in February 2008. Focus of the research will be microorganisms and extremophiles.

VCSI was featured in the May Edition of the Who’s Who in Huntsville Magazine thanks to a generous gift from SAIC.
